Obiettivi formativi

The course aims to provide students with the scientific and methodological foundations needed to use psychological notions and conceptual tools in a forensic context. Emphasis will be on basic statistical tools as applied in actual legal disputes and to social network analysis.
a. Students will have to know basic methods of psychological research and to understand the peculiarities of the use of psychological knowledge in a forensic context. Furthermore they will know the basic elements of social network analysis.
b. At the end of the course students will be able to identify, select and use the evidence from the scientific specialised literature of reference. They will be able to understand and outline scientific studies designed to increase knowledge on key topics of forensic psychology. They will also be able to choose among the different available methodological approaches and among the available data analysis techniques. They will be able to use R to analyze simple social networks.
c. Students will have to demonstrate being able to integrate the theoretical knowledge learned in this and other courses, to identify the limits of applicability of their knowledge and of the discipline, to design applications of this knowledge in the forensic context with particular attention to methodological rigour and to the identification of scientific evidences to support their choices.

• la capacità di lettura e comprensione delle tematiche;
• le conoscenze teoriche;
• le competenze pratiche;

  1. il ragionamento seguito nella risoluzione degli esercizi;
  2. la correttezza della procedura individuata per la soluzione di ogni esercizio;
  3. l’adeguatezza e la completezza della risposta proposta in relazione alle competenze che lo Studente si presuppone abbia acquisito alla fine del corso;

The evaluation of the Students takes place through both a written test.

The written test covers the whole program of the course consisting of theoretical questions, exercises to be carried out in a complete and open-ended way, multiple choice questions and exercises applied to social network analysys and forensic research methodology.

The Student will have to demonstrate the acquisition of:

  • the ability to read and understand the relative literature on the topics,

  • the theoretical skills;

  • the practical skills;

  • the ability to interpret, process and communicate results.

The final mark is expressed out of thirty.

In the assessment of the examination the determination of the final grade takes into account the following elements:

  1. the reasoning followed in the resolution of the exercises;

  2. the correctness of the procedure identified for the solution of each exercise;

  3. the adequacy of the proposed solution in relation to the skills that the Student is assumed to have acquired at the end of the course;

  4. the use of an appropriate language.

To pass the exam, that is, to report a grade not lower than 18/30, the Students must demonstrate to have acquired sufficient knowledge of all the topics of the course and be able to sufficiently satisfy all the four elements listed above. To achieve a grade of 30/30 cum laude, the Students must demonstrate that they have acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course and satisfactorily meet the four elements mentioned above.

The final written test can be replaced by participating in all the scheduled on-going tests and obtaining an overall positive results.

Students can choose to take the exam, always in written form during the ordinary exam sessions.

Fianl exam consists of 18 multiple answer questions to be solved in one hour.
